Govt. is all set to launch “Digital India” companion with Big Bang. India has developed an Operating System (OS) named BOSS (Bharat Operating Systems Solutions). This is a linux based operating system and has been developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing). BOSS currently has following three versions:
BOSS 6.0 – The Release of BOSS GNU/Linux Version 6.0 is coupled with GNOME Desktop Environment with wide Indian language support & packages. This OS is a general purpose OS and may be used in place of Windows by Individual. This OS can be download from here.

EduBOSS – EduBoss is an educational variant of BOSS Linux is a full-featured, user-friendly Linux operating system, has educational applications that are useful for schools (primary and higher levels). This version can be download from here.
BOSS Advance Server – BOSS Advanced server supports Intel and AMD x86/x86-64 architecture. BOSS GNU/Linux advanced server has unique features such as Webserver, proxyserver and so on. This is useful for corporates running servers.
Following are the features of BOSS:

1. BOSS is a Made-in-India OS.
2. BOSS is based on linux and free open source OS.
3. BOSS is available for download for free.
4. BOSS is a “Hacking proof “ OS. Even the army of India could not hack this OS.
5. BOSS includes the features like E-Speak, Screen Reader and Magnifier. Therefore, blind people can also use this OS.
6. BOSS supports Intel 32-bit and 64-bit architecture.
7. BOSS also supports 3D desktop and On-screen keyboard.
8. Bank has upgrading their ATMs on BOSS after Microsoft stopped the support for Windows XP.
9. Soon, this OS may replace Windows in all Govt. Offices.
10. This OS can be installed on any laptop or computers.
11. This OS supports most of the Indian Languages.
